Hi, am more aware of the Black Hat Sect approach.
I am looking at a French townhouse in a lovely town that is a great location and well regarded.
It is a large basement and 3 floors. A barber is in the ground floor.
Issues - has a staircase to the right as you open the front door and a corridor to the left leading to the laundry. That being said, the staircase could be re routed near the base to create a different entry to it.
There are several overhead beams in the next level but we would be happy to paint them to blend in to the ceiling. The bed would be on the next level and is over the kitchen but we could place the stove in an area which means we wouldn't sleep over it.
We are seeing if the barber is intending to retire and we apparently can give 6 mths notice but if he doesn't leave then commercial laws may be against us. That being said, it could be money to add to our mortgage payments. The house is no 8.
One last issue, it is part of a divorce settlement which wasn't acrimonious just long winded.
With all of that, it still has a lovely light to it and a cat came to the window (we love cats) and said hello!

Any thoughts??

Hi ajca, Judy here from USA, by no means an expert but feng shui is so much a way of life to me, much more than a 'hobby'.

Staircase shouldn't be a big problem as long as it's not straight in front of the doorway, also I think there should be a landing at the top of the stairs, not just a door opening into the next level. You probably know about not having chairs or desk facing the stairs, with the stairs representing a "killing" arrow.

Re: your kitchen. Do place your stove against a wall, it will provide continual support for your prosperity.. also, face either East (wood) or South (fire) when you are standing in front of your stove. Don't put your stove directly across from your sink since water will destroy fire, this represents destruction of your faimly's wealth. (hang a metal wind chime with 5 hollow rods over your stove to double your money)

Remember in your bedroom, don't place the head of your bed against a wall shared with a bathroom, also not against a window unless your headboard is solid and covers the window.. (always use solid headboard to ensure solid relationship).

The beams are bad. Could you drop the ceiling to the level of the beams to make solid ceiling?? Those beams, especially in the bedroom represent health problems.. maybe you could install a false ceiling with fabric, if all that is not possible, hang wind chimes, flutes or red fringe on the beams, beams represent separation, not good..

Re: the divorce previous.. are you familiar with salt cures? Buy several disposable pie pans, and a larger one like to bake a turkey in, buy some rock salt and rubbing alcohol. In each room, put some rock salt in one of the small pans, place that pan in the larger pan, pour alcohol over salt to soak and light with long match or lighter. As this is burning say something like, Cleanse this room of all negativity, and imagine white light encircling the room. wash your hands thoroughly and go to the next room.. use a different small pan in each room but it's fine to use the one big pan for each room. Do this in every room to rid it of the negative effects from arguments. After you're done, open windows to allow fresh, new energy into your house for about an hr.. (All of us moving in a new place should do this, especially if you know of divorce or death..)

Also, as you well know, bad energy collects around clutter so don't allow any clutter, especially in corners.. After removing clutter and cleaning corners, clap your hands up and down in the corner, or ring a bell, to get the energy moving. After I clean up my house, I burn sage in every room as I ask Father God to keep our house free of all evil. I am a Christian so I ask this to be done in the Name of Jesus, but you use the catalyst that you believe in that connects you to our Creator.

Another thing I've just remembered to do with your stairs.. don't ever place your altar under the staircase as this will represent a pushing down pressure, negative energy, don't want that~

again with bells, shake your bell above each person's head, cleansing his/her energy. Wipe your bell clean after each use and always store it in the West area, W represents the element of metal. I took a lot of time picking out my bell, make sure it is pleasant to your ears, it will activate yang energy in your home.

I could go on and on.. :-) I love it so much. Do you have good books; I must have 25 or 30 that I read and re-read all the time. Hope this has helped you a little.

Hi Judy

Thanks for this, I am in the same space as you are. Spent 3 mths doing a course and still learning.
Have bought the house tonight! Figure the staircase is right in front of the door but goes up to a wall and then you have to turn left. It is a lovely old stone staircase so thinking of tiling to stop the chi to have a look. Then something to look at at the top to make the chi stop.
As for the beams, not a lot we can do so buying some wrought iron crystal small chandeliers to break the beams up. Happy to put one set of flutes on one beam but there are several. Going to paint them white as they are reasonably high and one book suggested this as a remedy as well. It is the sitting room and not the bedroom. The kitchen space is empty so we will build a kitchen and I have a compass. Even Black Hat Sect says it should be in the north of the compass point.

Got a really good price and it is in a really lovely street opposite a garden.
Happy to discuss.

Big congrats for buying, nothing like owning real estate. Sitting room and not BR, very good.. those sound like great remedies~ and won't it be fun to design your kitchen!! I think the stairs turning like that will be fine and many things for you to do to slow down chi.. I'll keep checking in my books.. Yes, we'll always be learning from many masters; it's a great way of living harmiously; can't understand why people won't open up their minds to it.

Thanks for the support. It does have some Feng Shui issues but it hasn't been lived in for ages. It is part of the settlement of a divorce. I figure that most houses would have some history. I use a Buddhist singing bowl and sandalwood incense to clear all energy. Then I spray salt water in to the air.
I love Feng Shui but it doesn't always apply to western houses.
