I have seen some restaurants putting these lucky cats facing their entrance and their business are very good. There is this particular restaurant chain that put this cat in all their restaurants. You need to queue to get in.

Sorry, no comments on the Japanese f/s which use the cat figurine.
The Chinese f/s dose not use cat. Infact, the tiger which belongs to the cat family, is a taboo figurine to keep in one's house. Worst is the occupant was born in the Monkey year.
